Four years ago Amazon made a billion-dollar bet on a live-streaming platform for video games. And that bet has been paying off ever since. The popular service Twitch.TV now has an average viewership that rivals some major cable networks. In January, Twitch averaged 962,000 viewers at any given time, which is on par with MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, and ESPN. The free service is mostly used for video game streamers that broadcast themselves playing games.
