Betsy DeVos Disgraces Herself on '60 Minutes'

Betsy Devos recently gave a pair of disastrous interviews. On “60 Minutes” Devos was grilled about school choice and stated, “In places where there has been a lot of choice introduced, Florida for example, the studies show that when there’s a large number of students that opt to go to different schools, the traditional public schools, actually the results get better as well.”
When asked of that has been the case in Michigan, the education secretary stated, “I can’t say overall that they have all gotten better,” and that there are “certainly lots of pockets where the students are doing well.”
She also went on the “Today Show” where she pushed for arming teachers, stating, “I think school have to be protected like every other large gathering place. We protect stadiums. We protect theatres. We protect airports. And we need to make sure schools are protected in the same way. They have our most valuable assets — our students, our children.” Though when she was pressed for how many teachers should be armed and in what fashion, she insisted that the logistics should be decided at the local and state level. For someone with such strong opinions, it doesn’t seem like Devos has logistics or metrics to back up much of anything.
