Provided By - Video Elephant on November 24, 2021
“NFT”, which stands for non-fungible token, is Collins Dictionary’s word of the year for 2021. It is defined as “a unique digital certificate, registered in a blockchain, that is used to record ownership of an asset”. It is one of three tech-based words to make it into the publisher’s ten words of the year list. “Crypto”, which stands for cryptocurrency, and “metaverse” are the other two tech-based words that made it onto the list. “Double-vaxxed”, “pingdemic” and “hybrid working” also made the shortlist, reflecting the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. “Climate Anxiety” echos growing concern about the damage humans are doing to the planet. While “cheugy” can be used to describe something that’s “no longer cool or fashionable”. According to Collins, it often refers to someone or something from the 2000s.
