Japan’s Momiji Nishiya Wins Olympic Gold Aged 13

Japanese skateboarder Momiji Nishiya has won gold at the women’s street skateboarding event at Tokyo 2020.
At just 13-years-old, Nishiya is one of the youngest gold medal winners in Olympic history.
The youngest person to win an Olympic gold medal was American diver Marjorie Gestring, at the age of 13 years 267 days old.
The average age of the podium for the women’s street skateboarding event was 14 years 191 days.
The podium was the youngest individual podium in Olympic Games history.
Brazil’s Rayssa Leal came second aged 13, while Japan’s Funa Nakayama came third, aged 16.
Japan also won gold in the first-ever Olympic skateboarding event thanks to Yuto Horigome.
Horigome won gold in the men’s street skateboarding competition.
