Top Republicans are pushing back against a call by President Trump's lawyer to shut down the investigation into alleged campaign collusion with Russia.
Making the rounds of the Sunday morning talk shows, Republican Senators including Marco Rubio, Lindsey Graham and James Lankford all had the same message: Let Special Counsel Robert Mueller do his job.
A member of the prestigious and controversial House Intelligence Committee, Republican Congressman Trey Gowdy, also weighed in:
"When you are innocent, when the allegation of collusion with the Russians, and there is no evidence of that, and you're innocent of that, act like it."
Andrew McCabe fired
The call for the investigation to be halted made by Donald Trump's attorney, John Dowd, came one day after the firing of former FBI Deputy Director, Andrew McCabe, two days before he was eligible to claim his pension.
Dowd retracted his initial claim that he was speaking on behalf of the president but Trump himself later seemed to back the call by sending a series of tweets calling the probe a partisan "witch hunt".
The White House later issued a statement saying that Trump was not considering firing Mueller.
McCabe claims that he was dismissed as part of an effort to discredit him as a witness in the Russia investigation.
