Jeff Bezos Offers NASA $2Bn Discount For Lunar Lander Contract

Jeff Bezos has offered to cover up to $2 billion of NASA’s expenses in exchange for a contract to build a lunar lander.
Bezos wants NASA to add Blue Origin’s Blue Moon lunar lander to a key phase of the Human Landing System program.
In return, the billionaire would waive up to $2 billion in contract payments over the next two years.
Blue Origin would also self-fund a Blue Moon test launch, which would likely cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
In April, NASA awarded Elon Musk’s SpaceX a $2.89 billion contract to build the next crewed lunar lander.
In a letter to NASA administrator Bill Nelson, Bezos said NASA should “embrace its original strategy of competition”.
