Masters and US Open winner Ángel Cabrera was arrested by Brazilian federal police and is set to be extradited to Argentina.
Cabrera will face several charges in his home country for crimes allegedly committed between 2016 and last year.
The 51-year-old was on Interpol's red code list, a list of fugitives wanted either for prosecution or to serve a sentence.
Police did not officially confirm if the man arrested was Cabrera but two policemen anonymously confirmed the news.
Argentine media reported in January that Cabrera's former wife, Silva Rivadero, had filed two charges against him.
Another former partner claimed Cabrera had punched her, threatened her, and tried to run her over with his car in 2016.
Cabrera won the US Open in 2007 and the Masters in 2009. He is the most accomplished golfer from South America
