18 Elephants Suspected Of Being Killed By Lightning Strike

18 Asiatic elephants have reportedly been killed after being struck by lightning in a remote area of India.
The herd of elephants were found dead in the protected Kondali forest reserve according to wildlife officials.
This is a very sad incident, such incident has never occurred in the forests of Assam, Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister of Excise, Forest & Environment and Fisheries, Government of Assam.
14 of the elephants were found dead on top of a hill with the other four being found on the ground below.
Initial reports from veterinarians said that they had been struck by lightning but autopsies will reveal the cause of death.
India is home to approximately 60% of the wild Asian elephant population with nearly 30,000 elephants.
