Ralph Lauren has stopped its sponsorship of Justin Thomas after he used a gay slur during a PGA tournament in Hawaii.
Thomas said the slur after he missed a par putt during the third round of the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Although Thomas apologized for the incident, the fashion brand said the use of the slur does not align with its values.
We acknowledge that he has apologized and recognizes the severity of his words, he is a paid ambassador of our brand, and his actions conflict with the inclusive culture that we strive to uphold, Ralph Lauren Corporation.
Ralph Lauren hopes the golfer will learn and grow from this incident and start using his platform “to promote inclusion”.
According to reports, it’s likely that Thomas will be fined for conduct "unbecoming of a professional”
