Six strands of Kurt Cobain’s hair have sold at auction for $14,145.
The hair was sold by Iconic Auctions as part of its ‘The Amazing Music Auction’.
The auction also reportedly included stage-used or signed memorabilia from The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin.
Cobain’s hair was cut by Tessa Osbourne in Birmingham, England in 1989 while Nirvana was touring their album ‘Bleach’.
Osbourne gave the hair strands to Seattle-based artist Nicole DePolo as a gift after Cobain died in 1994.
The “one-of-a-kind artifact” includes pictures of Cobain posing with Tessa Osbourne.
According to an affidavit signed by DePolo, Osbourne was the person who first gave Cobain his signature haircut.
A portion of the proceeds for the auction will go to Live Nation’s Crew Nation.
This is a relief fund that helps live music workers affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
