Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving did not attend the team's media day in New York City because of the city's COVID protocols.
New York City requires all pro athletes who practice or play indoors to show proof of at least one vaccine shot.
Irving declined to discuss his vaccination status and repeatedly asked for privacy when quizzed on the matter over zoom.
Kyrie Irving says a distraction was the last thing he wanted to create and would release more information at a later date.
"I know the focus has to be at an all-time high, no distractions. This is the last thing I wanted to create, was more distractions and more hoopla and more drama around this," Kyrie Irving.
All other Nets players were present at the event, and Irving is expected to participate in the team's training camp.
