These Skiing Robots Took To The Slopes In Pyeongchang

Provided By - Video Elephant on February 14, 2018
These robot skiers aren’t quite ready for the Olympic slopes. Eight teams joined the first-ever robot skiing competition to win $10,000. The competition took place February 12 just an hour outside of Pyeongchang where the 2018 Winter Olympics are being held. Private companies and students designed robots to go down a slalom slope while trying to avoid red and blue poles using a multitude of cameras and sensors. The teams were judged on how fast the robot completed the course, along with how many poles they managed to glide between. The bots were required to have two legs, joint-like knees and elbows, have independent power sources, and, of course, they have to use skies to get down the slopes. The Taekwan-v team took home the gold with year — their robot completed the fastest time and weaved through the most poles human Olympic athletes have been facing high winds and bitter cold weather. But these robot skiers seem to be doing just fine in the freezing cold weather. Though they could definitely use work on their bobbing and weaving, the electronic athletes didn’t do too bad on the slopes. Who knows, maybe there will one day be a robot event in the actual Olympics.
