EA's chief experience officer Chris Bruzzo has said the loot boxes in the FIFA game series make the games more realistic.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Bruzzo said that loot boxes are in the game to reflect the real world better.
"The idea is we are doing our best to reflect the real world of football, Chris Bruzzo," Chief Experience Officer EA.
Bruzzo went on to compare buying loot boxes in FIFA Ultimate Team to purchasing players in the real world.
This stance has been criticized by fans of the franchise who say it is not similar at all.
Fans argue that clubs spend money on a specific player in real life, not the chance of signing a player.
EA have come under fire for their use of loot boxes in games that are directed towards kids.
Many see loot boxes as no different from gambling, with governments thinking of changing gambling laws to cover loot boxes.
