According to a new study, shift workers are more likely to suffer from heart issues than people who work regular hours.
It was found that working hours that deviate from your natural body clock increases your risk of heart problems.
Researchers examined the cardiovascular health of warehouse shift workers and compared it to their natural body clock.
Risk of developing a heart issue rose by 31% for every hour the natural body clock is out of sync with someone’s work hours.
The research focused on something called ‘circadian misalignment’.
This is when a person’s ‘social clock’ and ‘biological clock’ are out of sync, which has been shown to cause fatigue.
These results add to the growing evidence that circadian misalignment may explain, at least in part, the association found between shift work and detrimental health outcomes, Dr. Gamboa Madeira, Study Author.
