A study published in 'Frontiers in Psychiatry’ has found that smartphone addiction can affect your sleep.
Researchers asked 1,043 students between the ages of 18-30 to fill out questionnaires about sleep and smartphone usage.
The study found that nearly 40% of students qualified as “addicted” to their smartphones.
This is consistent with other studies, which say that 30-45% of young adults around the world are addicted to their smartphones.
The students that reported high usage of smartphones also reported having poor sleep quality.
Should smartphone addiction become firmly established as a focus of clinical concern, those using their phones after midnight or using their phones for 4 or more hours per day are likely to be at high risk, Study Authors.
Experts recommend not looking at an electronic device one hour before bed, as they affect the sleep hormone melatonin.
