Apple Music Says It Pays Artists A Penny Per Stream

In a letter posted to its artist dashboard, Apple Music claims that it pays artists a penny per stream.
This means that Apple pays artists roughly double what Spotify does.
However, Spotify claims that just looking at “per-stream rates” can be misleading.
Last month, the company launched a website called ‘Loud&Clear’ to help artists and fans understand how payment works.
In the streaming era, fans do not pay per song and services do not pay per stream, so we don’t believe a “per stream rate” is a meaningful number to analyze, Spotify’s Loud&Clear website.
It is also important to note that Spotify is considerably bigger than Apple Music, with 355 million users.
Apple Music is estimated to have over 70 million users.
We believe in paying every creator the same rate, that a play has a value, and that creators should never have to pay for featuring, Apple Music.
