Coffee is a vital part of many people’s daily routines. However, drinking it too close to bedtime can affect your sleep. According to experts, the time of day you choose to stop drinking coffee is up to you, as caffeine affects everyone differently. If you start to experience tremors, suddenly feel nervous or your heart rate changes, then you should stop drinking it. People on birth control can often have a lower tolerance for caffeine. Because of this, people on birth control should avoid drinking coffee in the evenings to ensure they get a good sleep. Smokers typically have a high tolerance for caffeine and can drink coffee late at night without it affecting their sleep. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration says you should consume no more than 400 milligrams of caffeine per day. The administration also says people should not drink more than 200 milligrams of caffeine per sitting. An 8-ounce cup of coffee contains 100 milligrams of caffeine. This means that you shouldn’t drink more than 4 cups a day.
