Several gorillas at the San Diego Zoo in California have tested positive for the coronavirus.
They are believed to be the first known primates to catch the virus in the United States.
Eight gorillas that live together in the zoo are thought to have the virus, three have tested positive for it.
They caught the virus from a member of staff who was asymptomatic and had worn a face mask at all times around the gorillas.
According to the zoo’s executive director, the gorillas are coughing and have some congestion but are “doing well”.
The animals will remain together in their habitat and are being given vitamins, fluids, and food.
This is wildlife, and they have their own resiliency and can heal differently than we do, Lisa Peterson, executive director of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park
