World Athletics has approved plans from Russia for reform, meaning the country is a step closer to having its suspension lifted.
The plan for Russia’s return includes a 31-page plan with a number of deadlines over the coming year.
Changes requested include the introduction of whistleblowing policies and increased input from athletes on decisions.
Russia’s athletics federation was banned in 2015 for its alleged involvement in widespread doping.
This is not the end but the beginning of a long journey, with an incredible amount of work for Rusaf to do to rebuild trust, World Athletics President Lord Coe.
World Athletics also says it will discuss Russian athletes proven to be clean taking part in the Tokyo Olympics.
