Demi Lovato Celebrates 6 Years Of Sobriety

Demi Lovato is celebrating 6 years sober.
The pop star stated on Twitter, ‘Just officially turned 6 years sober. So grateful for another year of joy, health and happiness. It IS possible.”
Demi spent her teen years battling substance abuse, addiction and an eating disorder. She says there was a point where she couldn’t go an hour without using cocaine. In 2010, she checked into rehab at 18 after punching one of her dancers, and was diagnosed as bipolar.
She stated, “It just made sense. When I was younger I didn’t know why I would stay up so late writing and playing music and then I learned about episodes of mania and I realized that that’s probably what it was.”
Demi continued abusing drugs and alcohol after rehab, but in 2011, she declared she was getting clean when she released her 3rd studio album “Unbroken.”
Now, at 25, she is committed to bettering herself and an advocate for mental health care reform.
In a Mental Illness Day of Action Speech, she stated, “We know what it means to have our lives or the lives of people we love get off track because of mental illness. We understand that mental illness can be serious and absolutely devastating. We also know mental illness can be treatable when we have access to appropriate, comprehensive care.”
